Demize Play Physical Road Match, Earn Draw against  St. Louis ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Earning a point on the road is always a tough task. For  the Springfield Demize (1-3-3), the draw is second on their mind. Late  in the first half of a very physical game against the St. Louis Lions (3-1- 3), Springfield midfielder Gabe Christianson was tackled and was  carted off the field and taken to an area hospital.

With what appeared to be a broken foot for Christianson on the minds  of every Demize player, Springfield came out in the second half looking to take the three points. The level of play was very physical, but  possession stayed in the Demize half of the field for the majority of the game’s remainder.

In both halves, Springfield won the corner kick battle (4-1), out shot St.  Louis (10-7), and kept possession, but was unable to place the ball  through the posts. Several shots came close, with a few hitting the  crossbar or sailing justt wide. The Demize were on the cusp of breaking  the draw on several occasions in the final half, especially in the last  twenty minutes. Devon Newport and Paul Scheipeter led the way with  two shots apiece.

Goalkeeper Yuta Nomura kept Springfield in the game with his play on  the rare Lion’s counter. Nomura’s spectacular save in the 88’ helped  preserve his third shutout of the season. With the clock winding down,  the Lions began a counter attack. With numbers, St. Louis was able to  get off a quick shot off a cross. Nomura reacted and made a save high  above the ground. The ball rebounded out back to the Lions and was  shot back in, grazing the cross bar and going out for a goal kick.

The Demize continue on their season-long seven-game road trip on  Tuesday with a road matchup at Chicago.
