The Demize NPSL team was back in action in the Heartland Conference in the National Premier Soccer League on Friday May 28. The home opener for Demize NPSL was excting from the very first whistle as they faced a very organized Arkansas Wolves team that was playing in their fourth game of their inagural NPSL season.
Even with the solid defensive system made by Coach Ferreira, the Wolves scored the first goal of the night in the 19’ minute by #10 Oscar Herrera. Oscar with great individual technical display on the left wing where he beat two Demize defenders and with a tight angle found the upper corner of the far post, beating Demize keeper Matt Wallace. Wallace was making his Demize NPSL debute as incumbent keeper Nico Helin is serving his suspention from a red card issued in the 2019 Heartland Conference championsip game. Fortunately, things got better in the 29’ minute after a great corner kick by #7 Quentin Hornung and a great goal of the head of #24 John Clout, for the equalizer. Within minutes after a good pressing moment from Arkansas Wolves, the Demize counter attack lead by #7 Quentin Hornung saw him finishing with his weak foot, a great far post shot that beat the Wolves’ keeper to put the Demize in lead for the first time in the game.
In the 36’ minute, a great combination play between #7 Quentin which found #8 Gustavo Nascimento on a breakaway in the right flank, his shot beating the keeper but hitting the underside of the crossbar. Sporting Springfield product #20 Jeremiah Musa was able to score a bicycle kick with a wonderful finish making it 3-1 for Demize NPSL. The bicycle kick and ensueing back flip celebration will easily be a contender for best goal of the 2021 season. The final goal of the 1st half and match had Hornung again finding himself beating a Wolves defender in the wide space on the left wing, #26 Rian Marques receives the pass and gets fouled inside the box, #10 Jake Buckle took the pentaly kick and clamly waiting for the keeper to move ealry, slotted the ball in the middle of the goal to make it 4-1 for Demize. The second half found both teams each with a few oppurtinunies to score but niether team was able to capitalize.
Next up the Demize NPSL will be rematch of the 2019 conference championship game against the Tulsa Athletic on June 6, 2021 at 7:00 pm at Lake Country Soccer Stadium. Springfield - Missouri.
